Nushagak Report

Success is often measured by number of casts and time spent between fish. Well both of those numbers just took a nose dive. As of this morning the sonar station on the Nushagak had; 134,000 chums, 31,000 kings, and 236,000 sockeyes swim past so far this season. Large schools of chums are pushing there way past us here at the lodge and often you can spot them from a great distance with their tell tale pressure wake forming over their heads. The kings are not setting any records but with the right gear and a little patience hooking one is not difficult. The sockeyes have remained a bit elusive but with the numbers that are moving up it is just a matter of days or minutes before we will be enjoying multiple hookups and smoking their sweet fillets.
