August 2, 2010

We had fantastic weather today and were feeling a bit adventuresome so we hiked a short ways in to a lake known to have pike. After a short time wildlife watching we started fishing. It was slow fishing with a few follow ups and a couple spooked fish in the shallow weed lines so we ate lunch and hiked back. We ran upriver and parked the boat at the mouth of the Stuyahuk and walked in to find a huge stretch of Chums with a few Kings mixed in. We broke out the fly rods and immediately started hooking fish on egg sucking leaches. Rainbow trout were abundant enough to almost be a nuisance while trying to hook salmon. We also landed several large Dolly Varden.
